Chris Dwyer was a middle school teacher on the west side of Chicago. He saw that his students suffered from a lack of access to good food. So in 2009, he completed an internship with Growing Power Chicago and started an agriculture program at his school. The kids grew a garden, planted fruit trees, composted food waste, and raised egg-laying hens.
After six years of working to inspire young people to grow their own food, he realized he had accidentally inspired himself. He left Chicago to work on a vegetable farm outside of Madison.
In 2015, Chris moved back to his hometown of Milwaukee and started St. Clare Garden, and has been growing there ever since.
He lives with his wife and two wonderful children in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Milwaukee.
